I'm 27, never thought I'd love a small town...
- 5/6/2009
I felt compelled to leave a comment because other young professionals have left words of St. Joe being boring, etc. I agree that St. Joe is not a great place for singles to meet others, like perhaps Chicago is, but if you have someone to share the journey with whether it's a friend or significant other, it's an absolutely wonderful place to live for so many reasons.
As someone who moved here a year after graduating from college and being the city girl and loving her nightlife, 5 years later I must say there is no place else I'd rather be. It's the big picture scene makes St. Joseph ideal. Everything you need is within an hour or two away.
The Amtrak downtown allows you to hop a train to downtown Chicago within 2 hours or less for more shopping, nightlife, Cubs game, etc. The summers in St. Joe are absolutely perfect with the lake, beach, boating and it brings loads of tourist, festivals, open bars and small sport tournaments not to mention other

Small town, but lots to do
- 12/2/2008
St. Joseph's location on Lake Michigan makes it a popular resort destination. The city is host to a number of festivals throughout the year, summer concerts by the river twice a week, an arts center, museums, and of course the lake. The numerous small communities in the county offer community theatre, vineyards complete with wine tastings/tours, concerts and art fairs. It is close to South Bend, and Chicago is a train ride

A great little town to live in!
- 7/21/2008
St. Joseph is like a little lost treasure on the west side of Michigan. Located near Lake Michigan, it's a town that has a wonderful mixture of rural and urban so you can feel like you know everybody, but yet have enough space and privacy to feel like you live in the country and don't have to deal with the day to day craziness of a metropolis. St. Joseph offers many small town activities that include the use of the local beaches. All in all, I've lived here for almost a year and I love

boring!!!!
- 8/9/2006
This place is great for family and retired folk. It's by far the worst place for singles and young professionals. If you like a bigger city atmosphere, this is NOT the place for you. They call this a city, but it's like a village. A village with a beach. It will bore you to tears. Try Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids or Ann Arbor. Those are a lot better, with more things to do (culture and recreation). Lving here for 3 years and it's been excruciatingly boring.

Not so great for younger people.
- 8/9/2006
St. Joe is a great place for older retired folk. There are nice quiet beaches, and small shops to buy souvenirs. Basically it's very quiet and relaxed. But if you're younger than 30, this probably isn't the place for you. There's really not much for us (20 somethings) to do here. If you like a young, social atmosphere, look somewhere else. If you like a bigger city feel, this is definitely NOT the place for you. Try Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids or Ann Arbor.
I've lived here for 3 years and this is by far one of the worst places for young professionals and/or single people. Can't wait to
